And somehow we all united and compromised; and we still remain The Greatest Nation called the United States of America.
In your own time, rise above your disappointment and dissatisfaction of your particular candidate not winning…..just as half Americans had to do four short years ago when Obama became President. Show the resilience of the human spirit. And as Hillary Clinton said in her concession speech, “We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead,” and “our constitutional democracy enshrines the peaceful transfer of power, and we don’t just respect that, we cherish it. It also enshrines other things: the rule of law, the principle that we are all equal in rights and dignity, freedom of worship and expression. We respect and cherish these values, too, and we must defend them. Now — and let me add, our constitutional democracy demands our participation, not just every four years but all the time. So let’s do all we can to keep advancing the causes and values we all hold dear; making our economy work for everyone not just those at the top, protecting our country and protecting our planet and breaking down all the barriers that hold any American back from achieving their dreams.”

Donald Trump clearly needs a lesson on articulation, clarity and consistency. Where he’s spoken up on the issues, he’s been reckless in his communication. But half of our fellow Americans clearly hear and desire the message beyond the messenger.

And we want to be heard in a way that supports us in our strength, not our weakness. Trump and his team will need to do their part in uniting the nation, and at the same time, we as Americans need to do our part.
The government will not come into your homes and teach tolerance and compassion. The government will not control your daily acts of kindness to others. The government will not control where you go on mission trips to serve or what organizations you choose to volunteer. The government will not make sure you love, nurture, feed, and care for your children appropriately. The government will not fix our inner-cities if they aren’t willing to guide, instruct, be present and do the hard work it takes to develop caring individuals. The government will not teach our children to respect the opinions of others even though they differ from ours. The government will not tell your daughter or son that she/he is worthy and beautiful just the way they are. The government will not tell you to help or vote for a particular group or candidate just because they are male, female or black or white. The government will not prevent you from running for office. It’s our own judgment and rational that makes these decisions. It’s a privilege and a right to do the things we hold so dear because of our military service men and women have given their lives for our rights and freedoms.
Every four years there are winners and losers….and every four years we must analyze and look into ourselves in making sure that we are doing what is right…..and not what is easy (or politically correct).
Let’s pray that our new leader and messenger evolves into a better communicator for the betterment and unity of our country and a world that is looking down upon us. Half of America voted for him.
